In 2015, one of my oldest friends died very suddenly and unexpectedly - and long, long before his time.

His widow asked me to make a commemorative chair in his memory. It took us a long while to come to a design, it was a sensitive issue. Eventually she decided that she wanted it to be based on a modest but nicely detailed and well-made chair that she had known for many years. The making was an emotional task, particularly the carving; not just his name and dates, but the back panel too which is a copy of the Celtic love knot that featured on their handmade wedding rings.

Andy's chair is now enjoyed by many in its home at the Storytellers' Centre on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh where he was a regular and treasured storyteller.
