The Pond Table was a bit of a treat for me as well as my client.
As a 70th birthday present to himself he wanted to commission a new coffee table for a bay window at his home overlooking the golf course and the sea. The broad brief simply specified that I was to ‘have fun with it’!
From a number of concepts he chose the ‘pond under glass’ and we developed it, along with his wife’s suggestion for the bitterns and bearded tits, seen at their favourite nature reserve. So I had a list of some of the wildlife to be included, but the final choice and how it would be arranged I kept a secret. There were plenty of surprises, not least the 70-year-old half crown piece inlaid in the base.
